Consumerism is about:

- satisfaction

- Entitlement

- More for me

- Obsession

- Devouring

- We think WE are doing the devouring, but instead IT devours us.

Community is about:

- being on mission

- Responsibility

- Serving others

- Freedom

- Creating

Partnership

- God desires for you to be an active partner, not a passive observer.

- koinos: “All things in common” = common; shared by all our several

- koinonos: associate, comrade, companion, sharer, partner

- melos: being a living part of an interconnected body/dynamic body.

- a partner is someone who is engaged with the organization’s mission

Let us draw near…

- Made right with God

- Displaying the righteousness of Christ.

- The inward change produces outward changes.

- You are righteous, now be righteous

- Why? So that we can serve the living God

Let us hold on…

- When this healthy fear is missing the result is not good.

Fear Not / Do Not Be Afraid

Many words to describe one truth. God is Faithful.

āman (Hebrew: אָמַן) - to go to the right hand. To build up or support someone. To poster as a parent or nurse. Figuratively to be firm or faithful. Permanent. True.

    • David - He will not see corruption

What does it mean for us today?

  • We are the people of Hope.

    • Surrounded by despair, but not living in despair.

How is it that we can be legitimately hopeful?

God is.

  • He exists

  • Jeremiah 10

    • The worthlessness of idols compared to a true God. (10:10)

      • Jeremiah 10:16

God is here.

  • Matthew 1:23 - God is with us.

  • Hebrews 1:3a - Jesus is God in the flesh

    • Philippians 2:5-7

God is love.

  • 1 John 4:8-9 - God is love.

  • John 3:16-17 - How much God loves us.

  • Titus 3:4-7 - what it means for us.

God is Salvation.

  • Roman 8:38-39 - there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God.

  • Hebrews 1:3 - God the Savior

God is King.

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - don’t live as those who have no hope

    • Ephesians 2:12 - We were… without Christ, without God, without hope. No longer!

It’s a Natural Response

God Tells us to

    • Rejoice with those who rejoice!

Celebration is central to all the Spiritual Disciplines. Without a joyful spirit of festivity the disciplines become dull, death-breathing tools in the hands of modern Pharisees.
